We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our clients, many of our clients and their families have been dealing us for decades and pre-date most of our existing staff. We are also proud to have one of the grandsons of founding partner Phillip Aitken, Robert Davey, working with us as a third-generation partner.
We are proud of longstanding client relationships where we are the sole or primary provider of legal services. Our clients face diverse legal issues and the work we do is rarely in isolation to our clients’ overall strategic objectives.
For many of our business and not-for-profit clients, the significant role we play is reflected in our ‘de facto’ corporate counsel status, where we draw on our knowledge of the client’s operations and corporate history. We see it as our job to promote, protect and enhance their commercial and business interests.
We provide a targeted range of services to clients in industries such as transport, aged care and retirement, franchising, manufacturing, property, food and hospitality. We provide advice on corporate governance issues and directors’ responsibilities, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, employment law, intellectual property, litigation & dispute resolution, general contracts and agreements, service agreements, competition law and trade practices, business restructuring, insolvency and taxation.
We have many clients in the not-for-profit sector, including many operators of aged care and retirement living centres and charitable trusts to whom we provide extensive business advice in much the same way as our corporate clients. Our tax team is well placed to advise on a range of issues, including DGR status and other processes for dealing with donations and trusts.
To many law firms, private client services are represented by providing personal services advice such as wills and estates (including litigation), trusts, powers of attorney, family law, property and conveyancing, asset protection, taxation and superannuation, succession and estate planning. We provide those services, but we view our private client services more broadly, encompassing the full range of the legal services to family businesses and other SMEs where the owner is a stakeholder.
Government and Regulatory
Following an extensive tender process in 2012, Aitken Partners was placed on the Federal Government’s Legal Services Multi User List, which essentially means our skills across the several areas of law for which we submitted our expertise has been endorsed by the Federal Government. We also have experience dealing with all levels of government on issues such as compulsory acquisitions, freedom of information, administrative law, planning disputes and land tax disputes.
