Angela is a senior associate in our Commercial Dispute Resolution team. She is an experienced litigator with expertise in negotiation, mediation and litigation, and has all the necessary skills required to advise clients and assist them in the resolution of their disputes.

Some matters in which Angela has been involved are:

General Litigation

Angela has extensive experience in handling litigation and dispute resolution. Recent matters include:

  • representing a company in relation to County Court proceedings for the supply of milk powder to an Indonesian company
  • representing members of an incorporated association in bringing Magistrates’ Court proceedings, including proceedings for an injunctive relief, to prevent the closure of a golf course
  • acting on behalf of a berry farm and its directors against County Court proceedings brought by a former director for an interest in land and a share of the profits of the business
  • representing a property owner against an adverse possession claim brought by an adjoining property owner
  • acting on behalf of an industrial oven provider in relation to proceedings brought in the Queensland Supreme Court alleging faulty equipment and breach of the Trade Practices Act
  • representing a director against a claim brought by the Australian Taxation Office for indemnity following proceedings being issued against the ATO for a preference claim
  • acting on behalf of a director defending Supreme Court proceedings relating to alleged breaches of directors duties
  • defending a professional negligence and misrepresentation claim on behalf of a financial advisor
  • acting on behalf of a vendor in Federal Magistrates Court proceedings brought by purchaser in relation to GST
  • County Court litigation on behalf of a security services company in relation to a breach of a consultancy agreement (manager not performing his duties and using employer’s staff and office equipment for own purposes)
  • Federal Magistrates Court proceedings defending an employer against a breach of contract and misrepresentation claim brought by former CEO
  • defending a Federal Magistrates’ Court proceeding brought against an automotive parts distributor by a former employee alleging unlawful termination and discrimination
  • issuing proceedings and conducting litigation in the Magistrates’ and County Courts on behalf of a number of landlords for unpaid rent and tenancy disputes
  • various debt recovery, bankruptcy and corporate insolvency files, including acting for the owner of barristers’ chambers for the recovery of unpaid rent

 

Administrative Law

Angela has advised and represented clients in relation to investigations and prosecutions brought by the Workplace Ombudsman, and has experience acting for the Insolvency Trustee Service Australia and the Legal Services Commissioner. She has also acted on behalf of the Victorian Bar Inc. in Supreme Court proceedings (later involving an appeal to the High Court) brought by a barrister seeking relief on administrative law grounds following separate disciplinary proceedings.

General Commercial Law

Angela assists a number of clients with board advice in commercial law, including pre-emptive advice regarding risk exposure and risk management, including:

  • compliance with the Corporations Act and directors’ duties and obligations
  • the protection of intellectual property and restraints of trade
  • fair trading and misleading conduct under the Trade Practices Act
  • professional negligence
  • terms of trade.
